Trying to get your hands on a hang drum?
Don't know what one of these weird ufo shaped instruments is? http://www.oddmusic.com/gallery/om16250.html
Unfortunately the only way to get one is to meet the makers in person (they live in Switzerland) and there is a huge waiting list.
See this link for details of how to contact the makers. http://www.hangfan.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=301
It makes an amazing sound though! just type hang drum in youtube and a load of videos come up of hang players.
I realised my dream of having a hang drum was pretty non existent as they are very expensive and hard to get hold of. So i started to look for alternatives. I found the following.
Hapi Drum which stands for Hand Activated Percussion Instrument http://www.hapitones.com/ i bought one of these, they have an awesome sound. you can play it with paddles or with the hands and they come in a variety of scales. The price isnt too bad either. The guy that sells them is a great guy too! see his website above and also http://www.oddmusic.com/ which has a LOAD of interesting instruments on there. As well as a description of the hang and some examples of him playing various instruments.
I have found other similar drums too. For example. http://www.oddmusic.com/gallery/hank-drum.html
The Milltone drum http://milltonedrums.wordpress.com/ has videos and descriptions of drums. I think they sell their drums on ebay.
Rosario Farm have also made some steel tongue drums similar to the hang http://stores.ebay.com/Rosario-Farm
Also see Rockcreek steel drums http://www.rockcreeksteeldrums.com/
There is a drum manufacturer in Germany that is making a drum similar looking to the Hang. its called a Caisa and here is the link... http://www.caisadrum.de/ i found one on sale on ebay for 880 euros.
Thanks to my friend idaho down in the comments he told me to check out pantheon steel... they're making a drum called Halo. check it out here http://halo.pantheonsteel.com/.
Also look look at http://www.hangfan.co.uk/ for info about the hang drum and connect with other drummers Good luck :)
Great research. I also think www.pantheonsteel.com is making a version of the Hang Drum also. Too bad the Hang Drum is so hard to acquire. I have been tempted to sell mine but it would make me very sad.
ReplyDeleteoh no don't sell your hang drum - unless its to me ;) joking. it would be a shame for you to sell it.
ReplyDeletethanks for the pantheon steel link il check that out :)
