Its just before the long easter weekend and can you believe it - Paul and I are getting sick. And not sick in the good sense! :)
Theres flu going round the office at the moment and i feel quite cotton wool heady. If you know what that feels like?
Anyway, i've taken some paracetamol and i'm drinking green tea.
I've googled "flu fighting food" and here's what i found. The full article is here
http://www.mylifetime.com/lifestyle/health/best-bites-10-flu-fighting-foods
1. Red bell pepper - twice as much vitamin C as an orange
2. Yoghurt - the probiotics in yoghurt line the stomach to protect it from germs
3. Green Tea (good good, drinking lots of that) - has a really long chemical name that is an immune booster apparently.
4. Almonds - lots of vitamin E
5. Sweet Potato - Has beta carotene which is converted into vitamin A in our bodies. Research suggests Vit. A helps fight respiratory infections.
6. Chicken Soup (no good for me, im a vegetarian) - research has suggested it has anti inflammatory properties which could help reduce mucous and ease sore throats.
7. Garlic - sulfur in the garlic is known to kill viruses. Fresh is better than cooked.
8. Ginger - contains gingerol which can help fight off infection.
9. Oysters - contain more zinc than any other food and zinc is known to help keep immune systems strong.
10. Brazil nuts - contain Selenium which is an antioxidant which can help fight cold and flu. Don't eat too many though as they are high in calories and have 10 times more selenium than other foods.
In the office where flu and colds spread, wash your hands regularly, avoid touching your face, eyes and nose unless with clean hands, wipe down surfaces regularly to avoid the spread of germs and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze (obviously)! simple innit!!
Now go my friends and enjoy a germ free time :)
